OSHA Safety Quiz ~ English and Spanish ~ 1st Group

History of Safety, Rights & Responsibilities

This past summer I was asked by one of my clients after an OSHA 10 General Industry Outreach Training in Spanish to provide quiz questions on some of the topics I covered in the safety training.  So, I decided to post them here for you!  Please feel free to use them freely, modify them or otherwise incorporate them into your safety program, safety orientations, toolbox safety talks or ongoing safety training.  The answers are given on another blog post.

Below is my first group of questions in English and Spanish for topic #1 above:  THE HISTORY OF SAFETY & OSHA ~ RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

ENGLISH

1. What is OSHA or what is it’s mission?
a.)  OSHA is a federal government agency that protects all associates working in the United States by establishing safety standards that all employers must follow for the safety and health of their workforce.
b.)  OSHA is a federal government agency that makes safety videos so employers can train their workers.
c.)  OSHA is a federal government agency that conducts inspections of companies and collects as much money as possible in fines due to violations of the OSHA standards so that unsafe companies go out of business.
d.)  OSHA means “Occupational Standards for Health Awareness” and runs lots free workshops for Employers.

2. When did OSHA come into existence?
a.)  1776
b.)  1865
c.)  1945
d. )  1970

3. What is the general duty or responsibility of any employer towards its employees as it relates to safety and health?
a.) To provide some PPE to associates.
b.) To fine associates for not following safety rules.
c.) To provide a workplace free from recognized hazards.
d.) To give annual physical exams to each associate.

4. What is the best way an employer can fulfill their General Duty towards Safety & Health?
a.) By establishing a safety policy for their workplace, training each associate on that policy, and getting everyone involved to ensure that safety policy is being put into practice.
b.) By training associates on the OSHA standards.
c.) By yelling at associates who do unsafe things at work.
d.) By handing out safety bonuses weekly.

SPANISH

LA HISTORIA DE SEGURIDAD ~ OSHA ~ DERECHOS Y RESPONSABILIDADES

1. ¿Qué es la OSHA o cuál es su misión?
a.) La OSHA es una agencia del gobierno federal que protege todos los asociados en los Estados Unidos por establecer normas de seguridad que todas las empresas tienen que seguir para la salud y seguridad de los que trabajan allí.
b.) La OSHA es una agencia del gobierno federal que hace videos para que las empresas puedan entrenar a sus trabajadores.
c.) La OSHA es una agencia del gobierno federal que realiza inspecciones de las empresas y recauda todo el dinero posible por multas debido a infracciones de las normas de la OSHA para que las empresas vayan a la quiebra.
d.) OSHA significa “Occupational Standards for Health Awareness” y maneja talleres gratis para las empresas.

2. ¿Cuándo empezó la OSHA?

3. ¿Cuál es la responsabilidad general de la empresa con respecto a sus empleados con relación a la salud y seguridad?

c.) Por gritar a los asociados quienes hacen cosas inseguras en el trabajo.
d.) Por entregar bonos de seguridad cada semana.

    In Question #1, the wording got a little messed up. The “d” should be moved after “go out of business”.
